Q: What types of data can be added to EOSDIS?

A: Any NASA-funded data products, whether through airborne or orbital missions, competitive programs (grants), or other NASA programs, may be considered for archival within EOSDIS. Data must be produced and formatted in accordance with EOSDIS requirements, and delivered with appropriate documentation and metadata.

Q: What are the costs associated with hosting data in EOSDIS?

A: For any NASA-funded data products (see above) there is no cost to the data provider, PI or otherwise. However, the data provider should plan for costs associated with producing and delivering the documentation, metadata, and formatted data in accordance with EOSDIS requirements.

Q: Does EOSDIS accept data from external (non-NASA funded) sources?

A: NASA does not accept data from non-NASA funded sources unless the products have been recommended by our science community and NASA has determined that the data align with our mission. For more information about this process, see Ad hoc Requests.

Q: How is Level of Service determined?

A: Service levels are assigned based on the NASA data processing level and the data product category. The NASA data processing level identifies the nature of the data, from raw instrument data (Level 0) to gridded variable data products (Level 3) to merged data or model output (Level 4).

The six NASA data product categories are:

  • Science Mission Products
  • NASA-funded Data Products
  • Facility Created Products
  • NASA Research Community Products
  • NASA Applied Science Products
  • Non-NASA Research Community Products

More information about these data product categories and corresponding Levels of Service can be found in the Level of Service model document.

Q: Who do I contact if I have more questions?

A: Please contact us if you have any questions about the processes or requirements involved with hosting your data in EOSDIS.
