NASA's Sounder SIPS is responsible for processing and reprocessing data products from two joint NASA/NOAA Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) instruments: Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) and Cross-Track Infrared Sounder (CrIS), collectively referred to as the Cross-track Infrared and Microwave Sounding Suite (CrIMSS). The science measurements may include products such as vertical temperature profile, vertical moisture profile, and vertical pressure profile (including surface). Sounder SIPS is responsible for the production and general quality assessment of CrIMSS products. It will process level 0 data to level 1, level 2 and global gridded level 3 sounder products using the scientific algorithm software from the Suomi NPP Science Team’s Sounder Discipline Group. Sounder SIPS delivers all data products along with scientific algorithm software, associated metadata, and documentation to NASA's Goddard Earth Sciences Data Information Services Center (GES DISC). Sounder SIPS acquires near-real-time algorithms for selected products and process and delivers these products within three hours for distribution through NASA's Land, Atmosphere Near real-time Capability for EO (LANCE).
