The Alaska Satellite Facility Distributed Active Archive Center (ASF DAAC), in partnership with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), has begun releasing datasets that it is mirroring from JAXA's Advanced Land Observing Satellite-2 (ALOS-2) archive. The first data in the collection include synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery of North and South America as well as neighboring regions dating back to 2014.
The ALOS-2 platform carries the Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar-2 (PALSAR-2), which is similar technology to the instrument that will be launched aboard the upcoming NASA/ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) mission. ALOS-2 SAR data are continuing to be ingested into the archive, so check back for additional imagery.
