NASA's Global Hydrometeorology Resource Center Distributed Active Archive Center (GHRC DAAC) has released the Airborne Radio Occultation (ARO) WHyMSIE Version 1 dataset. The product contains airborne GNSS radio occultation measurements collected from the NASA ER‑2 research plane during the Westcoast and Heartland Hyperspectral Microwave Sensor Intensive Experiment (WHyMSIE).
ARO derives vertical profiles of atmospheric temperature and water vapor from refractive delays in GNSS signals. These observations support research on atmospheric thermodynamics, moisture structure, planetary boundary layer processes, and the evaluation of emerging hyperspectral microwave remote-sensing capabilities.
This data release establishes the initial public archive of ARO observations from the WHyMSIE campaign, providing a reference dataset that can be compared with other airborne and in situ measurements collected during the experiment. The dataset contains 183 granules covering October 22 to November 13, 2024, and is distributed in netCDF‑5 format.
