On September 3, 2026, it was discovered that an incorrect setting caused a minor geolocation error in the version 08 GPM partner radiometer L2-L3 Aqua AMSR-E data. This error has affected the following collections:
GPM_2AGPROFAQUAAMSRE_CLIM_08
GPM_3GPROFAQUAAMSRE_DAY_CLIM_08
GPM_3GPROFAQUAAMSRE_CLIM_08
These collections will be removed, reprocessed, and replaced with corrected data.
Once these collections have been reprocessed, we advise users of the GPM v08 L2-L3 Aqua AMSR-E data to re-download their data to acquire the version with the corrected geolocations.
Also please see the following excerpt from the Precipitation Processing System (PPS) for additional details:
"The lat/lon of the all channel pixels were incorrectly assigned to channel 89B in the V08A AQUA AMSR-E GPROF algorithm. As a result, all the AMSR-E Brightness Temperature (Tb) were slightly mis-geolocated which could have an impact on the rain rates around the coast when the pixel was mis-classified with respect to the surface type. It‘s not a significant issue because the coastlines are fairly wide but it would change the retrieval result. To provide the best possible retrieval, PPS will update the products to V08B and retract the V08A L2-L3 AQUA AMSR-E data."
