NASA's Global Hydrometeorology Resource Center Distributed Active Archive Center (GHRC DAAC) has released the Version 1 Microwave Barometric and Radar Sounder (MBARS) WHyMSIE dataset. The dataset contains observations from MBARS, a combined active and passive microwave instrument flown aboard NASA's ER-2 aircraft during the Westcoast and Heartland Hyperspectral Microwave Sensor Intensive Experiment (WHyMSIE).
MBARS measures surface air pressure using oxygen absorption channels in the 64-70 GHz V-band, and it includes a differential absorption radar to estimate atmospheric oxygen content and surface dry air pressure. The instrument also provides hyperspectral radiometric temperature profile information that supports studies of atmospheric structure and planetary boundary layer processes. These observations help advance remote-sensing techniques and improve understanding of thermodynamic and moisture conditions across a variety of land and ocean environments.
The dataset contains measurements collected from November 7, 2024 through November 13, 2024 and is distributed in HDF-5 format.
