NASA's Global Hydrometeorology Resource Center Distributed Active Archive Center (GHRC DAAC) has released the Configurable Scanning Submillimeter-wave Instrument/Radiometer (CoSSIR) IMPACTS Version 2 dataset. This collection contains airborne radiometer measurements acquired from the NASA ER-2 aircraft during the Investigation of Microphysics and Precipitation for Atlantic Coast-Threatening Snowstorms (IMPACTS) field campaign.

The dataset provides brightness temperature observations, along with atmospheric water vapor, cloud property, and precipitation indicator measurements that support studies of winter storm structure, snowfall processes, and remote sensing algorithm development.

CoSSIR is a 16-channel submillimeter-wave radiometer designed to observe ice clouds, snowfall, and atmospheric water vapor. These observations help researchers improve our understanding of snowband formation and evolution, evaluate cloud microphysics, and enhance precipitation retrievals and forecasting capabilities. Version 2 provides an updated release of the IMPACTS CoSSIR collection for improved data access and long-term research use.

Data were collected from January 5 through March 2, 2023, and are distributed in netCDF-4 format.
