NASA Earthdata and the Global Hydrometeorology Resource Center Distributed Active Archive Center (GHRC DAAC) have released the SHIS WHyMSIE Version 1 dataset. The Scanning High-resolution Interferometer Sounder (SHIS) collected high spectral resolution infrared radiance observations from aboard the NASA ER-2 aircraft during the 2024 Westcoast and Heartland Hyperspectral Microwave Sensor Intensive Experiment (WHyMSIE) field campaign. These measurements support atmospheric sounding studies by providing information used to derive temperature, water vapor, cloud, and planetary boundary layer characteristics.
This release provides the initial public archive of SHIS observations acquired during WHyMSIE. The dataset enables researchers to compare infrared sounding measurements with complementary airborne, ground-based, and in situ observations collected throughout the campaign. The data support the evaluation of emerging atmospheric profiling technologies and future planetary boundary layer observing system concepts. These data are available in netCDF and HDF-5 files from October 18 through November 13, 2024.
