The Product User Guide (README) for the listed Cross-track Infrared Sensor (CrIS) L1B IMG and IMG_COL v2 collections has been updated. The update consists of a caveat to users about data quality due to discontinuities that were found in time-series of CrIS/Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) radiance and brightness temperature differences.
The discontinuities arose due to software patch updates, which were applied to both CrIS L1B and VIIRS L1B processing at different times in the data record. In addition, artifacts have been found in CrIS/VIIRS differences for low scene radiances corresponding to an older version of the VIIRS L1B data. This issue will be resolved by implementing a new release of IMG based on the CrIS v4 L1B data and a consistent set of VIIRS L1B data in the coming months.
Note that this caveat does not apply to the Joint Polar-orbiting Satellite System - 2 (JPSS-2) IMG and IMG_COL collections (SNDRJ2CrISL1BIMG and SNDRJ2CrISL1BIMGC).
