NASA Earthdata and the Global Hydrometeorology Resource Center Distributed Active Archive Center (GHRC DAAC) have released the Second Generation Airborne Precipitation Radar (APR-2) TC4 Browse Only dataset. APR-2 is a dual-frequency (14 GHz and 35 GHz) Doppler dual-polarization radar system that measures radar reflectivity and doppler velocity in both Ku- and Ka-bands.
The APR-2 radar flew on the NASA DC-8 aircraft during the Tropical Composition, Cloud, and Climate Coupling (TC4) field campaign. This campaign took place from June 28 through August 10, 2007, in the tropical Eastern Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The primary goal was to better understand the role that the tropical tropopause layer (TTL) plays in Earth’s atmospheric chemistry and climate.
