Background
Global Positioning System-Radio Occultation (GPS-RO) data were evaluated by NASA’s Commercial Satellite Data Acquisition (CSDA) program and were found to provide value in a number of areas including data assimilation and numerical weather prediction. They also enhanced atmospheric temperature and moisture content vertical profiles when combined with hyperspectral sounder information. Through the Satellite Needs Working Group (SNWG) biennial survey, agencies requested access to GPS-RO data to further explore the value of GPS-RO data to meet their needs.
Status: Available Now
NASA's CSDA continues to provide access to Global Navigation Satellite System-Radio Occultation (GNSS-RO) data through the current United States government End User License Agreement (EULA). The license provides scientific, non-commercial use only with a 48-day delay for access to the Spire data.

Societal Impact
Insights on atmospheric dynamics, such as thermodynamic vertical profile of the atmosphere, is critical for needs such as predicting severe weather and providing atmospheric stability parameters to forecasters and to regional and mesoscale numerical weather prediction models.
