Data Curation for Discovery Solution

Data Curation for Discovery (DCD), an SNWG solution, assists other agencies in incorporating NASA Earth observation data into their workflows.

Background

Since 2016, the Data Curation for Discovery (DCD) project has supported the discovery of Earth observation data in trusted catalogs and platforms such as data.gov and geoplatform.gov.

DCD has also provided crucial support for the Satellite Needs Working Group (SNWG) biennial survey assessment, managed by NASA’s SNWG Implementation TEam (NSITE). During each assessment, DCD creates a profile of agency needs captured through the survey, and the team supports stakeholder engagement and outreach to publicize the resulting solutions developed in response to the identified needs.

Status: Transitioned to a Permanent NASA Home

The DCD project was successfully transitioned to a permanent NASA home in early 2026. Because of their extensive contributions to NSITE, DCD has been handed off to the NSITE Management Office for continuation, and the assets produced by the team will remain accessible and in use to support NSITE activities.

Societal Impact

The DCD team maintains several web pages and data portals to ensure that Earth observation data, SNWG solutions, and associated capacity-building resources are available to SNWG stakeholders and user communities. These efforts will continue through NSITE's activities.
