In this workshop presentation at the Black Hills Digital Mapping Association's 2016 annual conference, learn how to work with Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) remote sensing data in a Geographic Information System (GIS) environment. The workshop included demonstrations and hands-on activities.
The first activity involved demonstrating how to search for and download Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) L1T and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data through NASA’s Earthdata Search. Next, see how to properly load MODIS and ASTER L1T data into ArcMap (10.4). The workshop also included demonstrations of Application for Extracting and Exploring Analysis Ready Samples (AppEEARS) point sample requests and how to order, visualize, and download both point samples and area extraction in AppEEARS. It also shows how you can create and export point and polygon shapefiles in ArcMap, and use them as input for making AppEEARS requests. All of the demos used the 2000 Jasper Fire as a use case example.
