Aqua Safe Mode Alert

Resolved Outage
Issued
March 31, 2022
Resolved
April 17, 2022

The Aqua spacecraft transitioned to Earth point safe mode on March 31, 2022, at 090/17:59:08z. As a result, MODIS is in safe mode and no science data are being produced. The cause of the anomaly is under investigation.

Aqua MODIS returned to science mode on April 15, 2022, but the data were unusable as collection occurred entirely in night mode and Focal-Plane Array (FPA) temperatures were continuing to stabilize. The regular day rate data collection started on April 16, 2022, but the FPA temperatures had not cooled to nominal levels until April 17, 2022. MODAPS has started generating and distributing all Aqua data beginning on April 17, 2022 (day 2022107-00:30z) but users are requested to exercise caution as the MODIS Characterization Support Team (MCST) is still conducting intensive assessment of all instrument and onboard calibration devices.
