ASTER On-Demand Processing To End December 15, 2025

Data Update
Issued
Sept. 15, 2025
Resolved
On December 15, 2025, the on-demand product generation system—the Simple Scalable Script-based Science Processor for Missions, or S4PM—that allows users to submit requests to process Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) L1A Version 3 scenes into Level 2 and Level 3 products with custom ancillary input options will be decommissioned.

Users are encouraged to begin using the ASTER Version 4 final collections, which include improved atmospheric corrections and updated geolocation data to deliver better accuracy and consistency. ASTER Version 4 data do not require users to submit orders to process data; they are now available as full collections spanning the entire ASTER mission period. New ASTER observations will be processed and added to the Version 4 collections as they are acquired.

Please note that the following products will not be produced in Version 4:

  • ASTER On-Demand L3 DEM and Orthorectified Images V003 (AST14DMO.003)
  • ASTER On-Demand L3 Orthorectified Images V003 (AST14OTH.003)

All ASTER on-demand users that are still interested in Version 3 outputs should make their necessary orders by December 15, 2025. After this date, ASTER on-demand orders will no longer be available.

Check out the ASTER Version 4 collections on NASA's Earthdata Search.
