Delay in VIIRS Data Delivery

Active Outage

The Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) data were delayed due to a wildfire in Alaska impacting the Fairbanks site. Data degradation started July 3, 2025, at 20:40 UTC. This event has impacted the processing of VIIRS data archived and distributed by NASA's Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC). As of July 22, 2025, activity at the station has normalized and data are being processed. Back processing is in progress. New VIIRS data are now available: currently the most recent SNPP VIIRS data is for July 11 and the most recent NOAA-20 VIIRS data is for July 16. Please note that some data during the event (July 3 - 8) may not be recoverable. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Ingest of NOAA-20 VIIRS data was also temporarily delayed. Access has been restored and data should be available shortly.

Please note: Both of these delays will impact the processing of datasets that uses VIIRS as an input, such as Harmonized Landsat and Sentinel-2 (HLS) and Landsat Level-2.

Please contact LP DAAC User Services with any questions.
