The Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) announced the full release of NASA’s Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation (EMIT) Level 1B At-Sensor Calibrated Radiance and Geolocation Data and EMIT Level 2A Estimated Surface Reflectance and Uncertainty and Masks data products following the November 22, 2022 Limited Public Release.

EMIT is an imaging spectrometer that records visible to short-wave infrared (VSWIR) light reflected from the surface of Earth’s arid dust source regions. The data will help researchers better understand the compositional makeup of dust particles on the ground and the role they play, when they become airborne, in heating and cooling Earth’s atmosphere and surface. Data files contain 285 bands representing a spectral range of 381–2493 nanometers (nm) at a spectral resolution of ~7.5 nm.

Using feedback from users, improvements and updates were made to the EMIT Level-1B Radiance and Level-2A Reflectance data products made available during the EMIT Limited Public Release. Users who downloaded EMIT data during the Limited Public release are encouraged to re-download their data to ensure they have the corrected and most up-to-date data available.
