The Suomi NPP GPS recovery was successfully carried out on November 6, 2024. Restoration of the geolocation accuracy has been confirmed and normal production of all SNPP VIIRS Version 1 and Version 2 data products has resumed. Data gaps will exist from 21:12:00 UTC on November 2, 2024, through 17:36:00 UTC on November 6, 2024, due to unrecoverable geolocation errors and invalid timestamps.

The Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) mission experienced another Global Positioning System (GPS) anomaly that started around 02:31:00 UTC on November 2, 2024. Given the degradation in the geolocation performance, all production of Suomi NPP Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) land data products has been temporarily suspended. This may impact other products that use VIIRS land data products as an input—ECOsystem Spaceborne Thermal Radiometer Experiment on Space Station (ECOSTRESS), Harmonized Landsat and Sentinel-2 (HLS) and Observational Products for End-Users from Remote Sensing Analysis (OPERA) Land Surface Disturbance Products. Further updates will be provided once performance has been evaluated by the instrument Cal/Val teams and processing has been resumed.
