The ECOSTRESS instrument aboard the International Space Station (ISS) uses a multispectral thermal infrared radiometer to capture radiance of the Earth’s surface with five spectral bands in the 8-12.5 μm range and an additional band at 1.6 um for geolocation and cloud detection (six bands total). On May 15, 2019, following mass storage unit anomalies, a data acquisition strategy was implemented for acquiring three of the spectral bands. ECOSTRESS returned to 5-band mode on April 28, 2023. To better balance contiguous science data scene variables, 3-band collection is being interleaved with 5-band acquisitions over the orbital day/night periods. Users should note that ECOSTRESS acquisitions between May 15, 2019, and April 28, 2023, contain fill values for the 8.285 μm and 9.060 μm TIR bands.
