The Gulf of Mexico Atmospheric Composition and Climate Study (GoMACCS), led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, studied the sources, evolution, and transport of pollutants in East Texas and along the Gulf Coast. The study explored the processes responsible for photochemical pollution and regional haze during the summer in Texas, as well as the effect of aerosols on regional and global climate.
Conducted in 2006, GoMACCS integrated data from many NASA satellites—including Aura, Aqua, Terra, and Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation (CALIPSO)—and NOAA satellites such as GOES-East and GOES-West. The campaign was a follow-up to the Texas Air Quality Study of 2000.
