We are in the process of migrating all NASA Earth science data sites into Earthdata from now until end of 2026. Not all NASA Earth science data and resources will appear here until then. Thank you for your patience as we make this transition.

Thomas Fire, California
Image captured on 17 December 2017, by the MODIS instrument, aboard the Terra satellite.
False-color image (Bands 7-2-1) of the Thomas Fire in southern California acquired on 17 December 2017. The false-color corrected reflectance image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument, aboard the Terra satellite, and overlaid with the MODIS/Terra fire and thermal anomalies detections, shown as red dots. The 7-2-1 band combination is useful for highlighting burn scars - the red area in the center of the image is the burn scar from the Thomas fire. View an animation of the fires over the past two weeks.
