Image of two typhoons in the Western Pacific Ocean. This image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument aboard the Terra satellite on 20 August 2015. Typhoon Goni is to the west and Super Typhoon Atsani is to the east. Typhoon Goni is expected to continue west until Friday and turn north. Heavy rains and strong winds are expected on the island of Luzon, Philippines and Taiwan when it turns north. Early next week it will move across southern Japan and parts of South Korea. Typhoon Atsani is forecasted to move northwest through the weekend and early next week it will turn north, then northeastward. The storm is likely to pass far off the coast of Japan.
