NASA Science Might Be Calling You

Apply for a ROSES-2025 grant to conduct real-world research that advances NASA’s science goals.

NASA has released an open call to scientists seeking funding for projects that address the agency's latest science objectives. This year’s Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Science (ROSES-2025) solicitation offers approximately 35 proposal opportunities supporting a wide range of basic and applied research relevant to the goals of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate (SMD). ROSES-2025 will offer approximately 300 awards totaling up to $150 million.

Selected research will span a range of topics from the Artemis III mission to Earth foundation modeling. Projects could involve theory about what will be observed; the development of technology to make observations to test those theories; collection of samples and data from land, sea, air and space; analysis of samples and data collected; laboratory measurements of samples and fundamental parameters to compare to data; and modeling using the data.

Funded projects will increase understanding of the real-world implications of all of the above, for example, revealing the effects of natural disasters on Earth or advance the exploration of space. Previously funded data-related projects included developing metadata tools for geospatial analysis and a database and open-source data access library for snow data.

Key details and changes in this year’s solicitation include:

  • Information on government-wide changes to grant awards and uniform guidance on applying for them can be found in the NASA Grant and Cooperative Agreement Manual (GCAM).
  • Proposers must use the NASA grants policy provided standard templates for Biographical Sketches and Current and Pending (C&P) Support. Watch a YouTube overview of the requirements.
  • Fewer program elements are offered this year to be aligned with the President’s NASA budget request — including no International Space Station proposals.
  • Proposals are going to be evaluated using the dual anonymous peer review process.
  • SMD is now providing an optional standard template for the Open Science and Data Management Plan (OSDMP) that will work across all of ROSES programs.
  • CVs will no longer be a selection criteria and should be kept brief.

ROSES-2025 anticipated award dates are approximately six months after the proposal due date. Full/Step-2 due dates are from September 2025 to May 2026. For answers to more solicitation questions, visit the ROSES-2025 FAQ page
