Rain in Central America

Image captured on Oct 10, 2022 by the MODIS instrument aboard NASA's Aqua satellite, with overlay of rain rate from IMERG.

Image

This true color corrected reflectance image shows an overlay of precipitation rate in Central America, with remnants from Hurricane Julia, taken from NASA's Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) (IMERG) algorithm. The IMERG Precipitation Rate layer displays rain rate and snow rate in millimeters per hour (mm/hr). It is estimated by the IMERG algorithm. The IMERG algorithm uses passive-microwave data from the GPM constellation of satellites and also infrared data from geosynchronous satellites.
