The Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) is pleased to announce the release of an additional Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Version 2 Leaf Area Index (LAI) and Fraction of Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FPAR) Data Product. This VIIRS Version 2 release includes a data product from the NOAA-21 satellite that was previously called the Joint Polar Satellite System-2 (JPSS-2).
The NOAA-21 platform was launched on November 10, 2022. Capitalizing on the success of the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) and NOAA-20 platforms, NOAA-21 features four similar instruments that take measurements related to atmospheric composition; carbon cycle, ecosystems, and biogeochemistry; weather and climate; and water and energy cycles.
