The NOAA-20 platform collects Earth observation data to help scientists better understand climate trends and global biological productivity. Capitalizing on the success of the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP), NOAA-20 features five similar instruments which take measurements related to atmospheric composition; carbon cycle, ecosystems, and biogeochemistry; climate variability and change; water and energy cycles; and weather. Joint Polar Satellite System-1 (JPSS-1) was renamed NOAA-20 after launch.
