The Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) announced an expansion of the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Version 2 Thermal Anomaly and Active Fire Data Products, along with a Terrain Corrected Geolocation product. This VIIRS Version 2 release includes data products from the NOAA-21 satellite, which was previously called Joint Polar Satellite System-2 (JPSS-2).
The NOAA-21 platform was launched in November 2022. Capitalizing on the success of the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) and NOAA-20 platforms, NOAA-21 features four similar instruments that take measurements related to atmospheric composition; the carbon cycle, ecosystems, and biogeochemistry; weather and climate; and the water and energy cycles.
