Description
The Version-3 Aura Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) Pixel Corner Product, OMPIXCOR, is now available from the NASA Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC) for public access. The shortname for this Level-2 OMI product is OMPIXCOR. The algorithm lead for this product is the US OMI scientists Dr. Thomas Kurosu from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center, Cambridge, MA.
The OMPIXCOR product contains ground locations of the OMI pixel corners in the global scanning mode. The motivation for the development of the OMI ground pixel corner products was the common need for: the visualization of derived OMI data products, the provision of ground pixel area for computations of trace gas emissions per area, the facilitation of the development of cross-platform pixel mapping applications (e.g., between OMI and MODIS), and to generally aid validation studies, to name just a few.
The OMPIXCOR files are stored in the version 5 EOS Hierarchical Data Format (HDF-EOS5). Each file contains data from the day lit portion of an orbit (~53 minutes) . There are approximately 14 orbits per day. The average file size for the OMPIXCOR data product is about 5 Mbytes.
