Terra MODIS Data Gaps - June 2021

Resolved

On June 28, 2021, Terra Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) experienced a non-recoverable data loss in the nighttime orbit over the Caribbean and North America, highlighted by the red box. This data gap was caused because of the temporary disabling of science data recording to remove the failed Printed Wire Assembly (PWA)-40 in the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) buffer. A second set of outages happened soon after, associated with the MODIS PWA-47 failure, which affected the MODIS buffer, on June 29-30, 2021. The first data loss, because of the PWA-40 is non-recoverable, but MODIS Adaptive Processing System (MODAPS) is currently working to fill in the rest of the outage period to the best possible extent, based on limited coverages from the Direct Broadcast (DB) stations. All Version 6 and 6.1 MODIS Terra products are directly impacted by the gaps for date listed on the images below.
